The permanent representative of Russia to the United Nations (UN) , Vassily Nebenzia, denounced that the United States acts like cowboys in its policy against Venezuela.

“Today, the blockade imposed by the United States on the coast of Venezuela constitutes a true act of aggression and Washington will be totally responsible for the catastrophic consequences of this behavior, a cowboy behavior that the United States is doing against Venezuela, which is not a one-off action; it is an intervention that could become a model for future military actions against other Latin American states”, emphasized Nebenzia.

During the UN Security Council, he recalled that, for months, the world has witnessed how Washington deliberately fuels tensions against Venezuela, under the pretext of combating terrorism and drug trafficking.

He stressed that, in reality, the United States has destroyed civilian ships in the Caribbean Sea and uses artificial arguments to exacerbate tensions against an independent State whose politics it does not share.

The Russian diplomat said that the White House has resumed the practice of invoking the fight against terrorism as an excuse to intervene in the internal affairs of other countries, going so far as to define the legitimate government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela as a “terrorist organization”. He stressed that this decision violates international law and seeks to justify actions of political, military and economic pressure to overthrow a regime that Washington considers undesirable.

Nebenzia warned that the blockade imposed by the United States on the Venezuelan coast constitutes a real act of aggression, contrary to the Convention of the Sea, Security Council resolutions and the Charter of the United Nations.

The Russian representative warned that this policy ignores the independence and sovereignty of countries in the region, imposing foreign interests and punishing those who decide to follow an autonomous path.

Finally, Nebenzia reiterated Russia's total solidarity with Venezuela and with President Nicolás Maduro, stressing that Caracas has demonstrated its willingness to cooperate and combat real terrorism. He warned that Washington does not seek dialogue, but rather intends to continue with a destructive policy whose consequences can be serious for the region and for the world.
