The spokesman for the Russian Federation, Dimitri Peskov, warned that the global economic situation “is extremely unstable” after the President of the United States (USA), Donald Trump, ordered the imposition of tariffs on all countries in the world.
“Our economic authorities are following this situation very closely and, of course, they are doing and will do everything necessary to minimize the consequences of this international economic storm for our economy,” Peskov said.
He also stressed that the price of oil, the country's main export product, is very important for Russia's budget, so Moscow is closely following the situation he considered “extraordinarily uneasy, tense and emotionally charged”.
“This is related to the decision of the United States to impose tariffs on most countries in the world,” Peskov added.
The Federation is precisely one of the few countries, along with Cuba, Belarus and North Korea, that were not taxed by Trump's tariffs.
