The Government of the Russian Federation, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made a firm call to all parties involved in the growing tension in the Persian Gulf to immediately stop any offensive against non-military objectives.
This statement comes as a direct response to the recent attack carried out with an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) against the residence of Nechirvan Barzan i, president of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, an act that Moscow considers a dangerous escalation on the current geopolitical scene.
The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, strongly condemned the use of kamikaze drones in the incident that occurred last March 28. According to the diplomat, these types of actions are not isolated events, but rather deliberate attempts to “further expand the geographical framework of the unprecedented political-military crisis” that the region is going through.
“We call on all actors to refrain from any attack against non-military objectives and to respect the integrity of civilian infrastructures,” Zajárova emphasized, a continuous armed confrontation that has mutated into a pattern of systematic attacks against administrative facilities and residential areas. Russia warns that the increase in hostilities against civilian targets only contributes to the total destabilization of an area that is key to global energy and political security.
Moscow reiterates the need to prioritize diplomatic channels to prevent the confrontation from leading to a conflict of incalculable dimensions in the Persian Gulf and Iraq.
