The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation announced that the Chancellor of Japan, Takeshi Iwaya, was banned from entering the Eurasian nation, “as part of the response to the continuing sanctioning actions of official Tokyo” against Moscow “in connection with the special military operation”.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that restrictions were applied to the former and current Japanese ambassador to Ukraine, as well as to directors of Japanese industrial companies.
Last February, the Asian country announced another round of sanctioning measures against dozens of Russian companies, banks and individuals.
Last November, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed surprise at Japan's hostile actions, since Moscow had not taken any action against him.
“Surprisingly, what have we done wrong to Japan? Nothing at all, not a single step, not a single word. They imposed sanctions on us. For what reason would they?” , he said.
