The government of Vladimir Putin in the Russian Federation stated that it remains interested in re-establishing economic and commercial relations with the United States (USA), as confirmed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov.

The statement is based on information quoted by Sputnik in the British newspaper The Economist about the possibilities of Moscow and Washington restoring such cooperation.

“We are still interested in re-establishing economic, commercial and investment cooperation with the United States,” Peskov told Russian media outlet RBC.

Last week, the spokesman revealed that Moscow and Washington are discussing possible trade and economic cooperation. In addition, he said that “there are American companies that want to return to the Russian market.”

During the month of June last year, President Putin assured that Russia is willing to allow foreign companies to return to the country, as long as that benefits the country's economy.

Russia and the United States broke the ice on February 12, 2025 with a telephone conversation between Putin and his American counterpart, the first since the return of the Republican politician to the White House.

Since then, the two leaders have spoken on the phone several times, and on August 15, the leaders met in the American city of Anchorage, Alaska, for a two-hour and 45-minute summit
