The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) reported the neutralization of a group of four individuals who intended to secretly infiltrate the Russian region of Bryansk, bordering Ukraine, on October 27.
The FSB, responsible for border security, has released a video showing the outcome of the operation.
The images showed an arsenal of Western weapons, ammunition and Canadian flags next to the bodies of the four individuals, who were killed during the operation.
The FSB confirmed that one of the deceased had a tattoo that identified him as a member of the Second Battalion of the 75th Regiment of the Reconnaissance Rangers and Paratroopers of the United States Army (USA) Special Forces.
The others' belongings included a Canadian flag, a Polish prayer book, and a notebook with notes in English about tactical training.
“Foreign mercenaries are operating under orders from Ukraine,” said Michael Maloof, former senior security policy analyst at the U.S. Department of Defense.
