This Thursday, the presidential spokesman of the Russian Federation, Dmitri Peskov, declared that his country does not see “new elements” in the threats of sanctions against the country made by the President of the United States (USA), Donald Trump.

Peskov indicated that during his first term, Trump was “the president of the United States who used sanctions methods the most.” “He likes these methods, at least he liked them during his first presidency,” he said according to a press release from Russia Today (RT)

“We're watching very closely, of course, all the rhetoric, all the statements. We are carefully recording all the nuances. We remain ready for dialogue, as President Putin has repeatedly said, to dialogue on an equal footing, to mutually respectful dialogue,” said Peskov.

The spokesman recalled that this type of dialogue took place between the two presidents during Trump's first term, adding that in the Kremlin they are waiting for signals from Washington, of their willingness to resume these contacts, which “have not yet arrived”.

Last Wednesday, Trump threatened to impose sanctions and tariffs “at high levels” against Russia if an agreement is not reached to end the conflict in Ukraine.

“I'm going to do a big favor to Russia, whose economy is failing, and to President Putin. Reach an agreement now, and stop this ridiculous war! It's only going to get worse,” wrote the American president on the platform Truth Social.
