The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Ryabkov, said that the unfounded demands of the United States against Venezuela turn the Caribbean into a new source of tension.

“Of course, this is potentially another hot spot, it's already heating up under a completely artificial pretext. It is clear that the fight against drug trafficking must be carried out by other means and it is clear that statements against Venezuelan leaders, Venezuela as a country, are also, in general, unfounded,” he emphasized during an interview with the magazine Mezhdunarodnaya Zhizn (International Life).

According to what was published by the TASS agency, Riabkov stressed that the fight against drug trafficking must be waged through other means and that the accusations against Venezuelan leaders and against the country are unfounded.

He said that Russia condemns the escalation surrounding Venezuela and said that Latin America must remain a zone of peace.

Riabkov stressed that Moscow and Caracas maintain cooperation in all sectors and assured that, in the current situation, Russia is on the side of its Venezuelan allies.
