Russia urged the US to stop escalating tension against Venezuela

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged the Government of US President Donald Trump to avoid a “fatal mistake” in its policy towards Venezuela, warning of a sustained increase in actions that, it has stated, compromise regional stability and international maritime security.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry has questioned the measures taken by Washington, including the blockade of vessels related to the Venezuelan oil trade. The organization has insisted that Latin America and the Caribbean must be preserved as a zone of peace.

The diplomatic institution expressed concern about unilateral decisions that, in its opinion, pose direct risks to navigation and energy trade. In addition, he expressed his expectation that the United States would avoid deepening a dynamic that could have unpredictable consequences for the hemisphere, Telesur reported.

The text also recalled the principle of self-determination of peoples, citing Simon Bolivar, and emphasized that each nation must choose its own authorities without external pressure.

Russia reiterated its support for the normalization of dialogue between Washington and Caracas and affirmed that the responsible path involves detente, respect for international law and the search for constructive solutions. The communiqué concludes that the region must remain an area of stability and independent development.
