This Wednesday, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation reported that a Russian flag gas vessel was the target of an attack with Ukrainian unmanned vessels while sailing through the Mediterranean Sea.
The incident occurred on March 3 near the territorial waters of the Republic of Malta, a member country of the European Union (EU).
The affected ship was the Arctic Metagaz, which was carrying cargo managed in accordance with all international regulations from the port of Murmansk.
The institution noted that the aggression was launched from the Libyan coast. On board the ship were 30 crew members, all Russian citizens, who were brought to safety thanks to a joint operation by the Maltese and Russian rescue services.
The Federation described the act as an act of international terrorism and piracy, considering that it constitutes a serious violation of the basic rules of maritime law.
In this regard, Russia assures that such actions, carried out with the complicity of the authorities of the member States of the European Union, should not be left without a response from the international community.
Moscow also recalled that, on previous occasions, civilian vessels operating under the provisions of international law have been attacked by Ukrainian forces.
