During an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, broadcast on the state channel Rossiya 1, the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, assured that the war in Ukraine will end in “a month and a half or two” if the West withdraws its financial and military support to Kiev.

The Russian president asserted that Ukrainian sovereignty is “almost nil” and accusing the international community of prolonging the conflict.

He also insisted that the survival of the Ukrainian authorities critically depends on foreign aid: “They cannot exist, they will not last a month if the money and, in general terms, the ammunition run out; everything will end in a month, a month and a half or two months.”

In this regard, Putin recalled that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine began at the beginning of the “special military operation”, a term that Moscow uses to refer to the invasion, and revealed that his country proposed to Kiev to withdraw from the self-proclaimed people's republics of Donetsk and Lugansk to avoid conflict. “Then there would be no hostilities,” he stressed.

In the framework of the Istanbul talks in 2022, he stressed that Ukraine suggested a presidential meeting to resolve the crisis: "Putin was ready to meet with the then president of Ukraine, Volodymir Zelensky"

The Kremlin has now questioned the legitimacy of a Ukrainian, whose term of office formally expired on May 20, 2024. “Because of his illegitimacy, Zelensky now has no right to sign anything,” Putin said.
