This Monday, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, personally decided to grant political asylum to former Syrian President Bashar al Assad, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov.

The spokesman noted that the Russian leader's agenda does not currently include any meetings with Al Assad.

Peskov noted that he had nothing to say about the whereabouts of Al Assad, in response to publications that he had arrived in Moscow on Sunday night.

He also added that Russia is firmly committed to maintaining dialogue on Syria with all countries in the region.

“We are talking with other States in the region, also on Syrian issues. In fact, in Syria there will now be a very difficult period associated with instability and, of course, it is very important to maintain dialogue with all regional countries in this regard,” said the spokesman.
