Saab prosecutor: From 2017 to date, 380 people have been prosecuted for cases of animal abuse

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, reported that since August 2017 to date, the Public Ministry (MP) has prosecuted 380 people for the crime of animal abuse, of whom 44 have been convicted.
During a special day within the framework of the anniversary week of pets, held this Thursday, October 09, in Los Palos Grandes, Caracas, he said that “throughout our administration, which began in August 2017 to date, we have managed to prosecute 380 people, previously investigated as subjects who have mistreated animals and 44 have been convicted.”
He specified that “we have treated 79,526 people as of August 2022, from whom we have received 8,633 complaints.”
Saab detailed the results of the program The Public Ministry defends your pet, which prevents animal abuse.
In this regard, he specified that more than 20,000 animals have been treated through the aforementioned program and has carried out 278 activities to prevent abuse.
“We have a flag program, which is extremely important, I believe at the international level, whose name is: the Public Ministry Defends Your Pet, which from 2024 to date has treated 26,086 pets, not counting the previous years,” he said.
Saab added that “we have also carried out 278 activities to prevent animal abuse, which have to do with talks, discussions, meetings, conferences, in order to raise awareness among the Venezuelan population.”
He also asserted that “through the path of sanction, we also do preventive work”, against animal abuse and that he is aware of compliance with the laws that protect them.
