The traditional Burning of Judas in the parish of Santa Rosalía marked the closing of Holy Week 2026 in Caracas, where the community of the El Cementerio sector celebrated 85 years of this cultural demonstration, said the head of Government of the Capital District, Nahum Fernández.
The activity coincided with the 231st anniversary of the founding of the parish, bringing together neighbors who keep alive this practice rooted in the popular identity of the area.
During the day, Fernández paid tribute to Juan Luis, 87, who has preserved the family legacy of this tradition, now converted into a cultural heritage shared by the community. In addition, he announced that the City Council of Caracas will award him a special award for his career.
He stressed that the event symbolizes the burning of indifference and represents a call for social action and citizen commitment, while valuing the development of the Major Week as successful in terms of security and participation.
He also highlighted institutional support in religious and cultural activities, as well as community mobilization in sectors such as El Cementerio, La Vega, San Juan and La Candelaria, where the population remained active in an environment of coexistence and preservation of their traditions.
