This Tuesday, the Prime Minister of Serbia, Milos Vucevic, announced during a press conference that he is resigning from office amid calls from the Government for calm, following protests from social sectors -including students- over the collapse of the roof structure at the main railway station in the city of Novi Sad (north).

During the incident, there were 15 deaths and about thirty injured. In his statements, the head of government assured that his decision is irrevocable and that he will continue to work with the Cabinet until his successor is elected.

Vucevic indicated that during a long meeting with the President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vucic, he accepted his decision and his arguments. He also requested the renewal of the Cabinet during a meeting where he examined the requests of students participating in the protests and invited academic authorities to discuss them with the Executive.

The Serbian Prime Minister explained that his departure will entail a total change of the Cabinet, as a result the new Government will have to be approved by the Parliament.
