At least three people lost their lives and five others were injured this Monday after a shooting occurred inside the San José National High School, located in the city of Tacloban, in the eastern Philippines. The country's security forces reported that the attack caused an immediate police deployment at the school campus, leading to the capture of two suspects, both minors, who are already in the custody of the authorities.

The tragic event occurred around 9:00 (local time) inside the school facilities, unleashing chaos between staff and students. According to the official statement issued by the police, the victims were rushed to nearby medical centers to receive specialized care, while officers secured the scene.

Among the detainees, the identity of a 15-year-old adolescent who is in the ninth grade has been confirmed, while the level of involvement of the second minor is being investigated.

The regional police chief, Brigadier General Jason Capoy, explained that none of the young people under arrest had a criminal record, so investigations are now focused on determining how they managed to gain access to firearms.

Capoy said that the aggressors managed to enter the campus armed after evading the institution's scant security controls, which had only one security guard to monitor the multiple entrances to and from the school complex.

According to the police report, the attackers broke into two consecutive classrooms and chased several students who were trying to flee, with preliminary confirmation that most of the victims are female students.

Given the seriousness of the events, local authorities ordered the immediate suspension of classes throughout the district of San José as a preventive measure, while urging citizens to remain calm and to actively collaborate with the investigation process.
