At an event organized by the solidarity movement Good Friends, academics and activists in Tokyo meet for the conference “The defense of independence and sovereignty through Popular Power in Venezuela: the communes”.
At the event, the Venezuelan ambassador, Seiko Ishikawa, reported that recent statements by the U.S. government confirm that the siege, intensified over the past 26 years, has had as its ultimate goal the control of oil and warned of the anachronistic Monroe Doctrine that is trying to revive Washington to turn Venezuela into an energy colony.
The response of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, with the strategy of civic-military-police union to preserve the sovereignty and peace of the nation, was highlighted, and the model of Popular Power and the Communes was presented as a shield of decentralized popular resistance in more than five thousand 336 communes and communal circuits of the territory, within the framework of the third transformation of the Homeland Plan.
The conference underscored the danger of allowing precedents to destroy the United Nations (UN) peace-keeping system.
