Spanish Meteorological Agency activates red alert for rains in Malaga and Tarragona

The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), activated a red alert for this Wednesday, November 13, in Tarragona and in the province of Malaga due to torrential rains.

“The danger is extreme. Riverbed overflows and floods can occur. A lot of caution!” , AEMET reported on social media.

International media point out that although the new DANA will discharge strongly in these areas, the truth is that it will keep the entire Mediterranean coast on orange and yellow warning, which has forced the suspension of classes in dozens of municipalities in the Valencian Community, Tarragona and Andalusia, where the Junta has activated the Emergency Plan due to the risk of flooding.

On the other hand, the number of fatalities recorded due to DANA and the floods that affected the province of Valencia two weeks ago has increased to 217, one more than this Monday, with 223 deaths throughout Spain.

They report that all of these people have already undergone an autopsy and are fully identified. Meanwhile, the number of missing persons currently stands at 17, according to the latest official balance sheet from the Data Integration Center (CID).

Faced with the threat of the new phenomenon in a short time, the authorities have alerted the population to take security measures for their protection. Among them, they recommended teleworking, given that road restrictions are maintained.

On the coast, where you can reach waves of between two and three meters, it is recommended not to approach cliffs or breakwaters, avoid practicing any water sport and, if you have a boat, try to moor it in a sheltered place.

In addition, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility limits the speed of navigation in search areas for missing persons. The arrest and anchoring of ships and vessels at these same points is also prohibited.
