The deputy to the National Assembly (AN) Tania Díaz pointed out that El Caracazo was one of the most painful moments that the Venezuelan population has experienced.

“It was a painful moment in national history that set a tone in saying enough to the political scam of the Government of Carlos Andrés Pérez,” Díaz said during the program Sin Truco Ni Maña.

He emphasized that at the time (1989) Venezuela had a 50% poverty rate and that measures to freeze salaries, reduce public payroll, and others.

“The social conditions were very harsh and the people took to the streets with what they had: their chest to face repression,” he emphasized.

For his part, Father Numa Molina, guest of the communication space, recalled that in the 80s mothers gave a dog to their children so that they would have something to eat.

“When people talked about eating perrarina in the 80s, they think it's an exaggeration, but that's how it was and I saw them, just as mothers gave their children teapots of spaghetti water,” Molina said.
