The Commission of Inquiry into post-electoral violence in Tanzania confirmed this Thursday that 518 people died during the riots that occurred in October 2025, Telesur detailed on its Telegram channel.
The official report details that, in addition to the fatalities, the clashes left more than 2,000 injured, in what represents one of the most violent episodes in the country's recent history.
The president of the Commission, Mohamed Chande Othma n, reported that most of the deaths were caused by gunshot wounds. These conclusions are based on an exhaustive investigation that included post-mortem examinations, hospital records throughout the country and interviews with more than 80 doctors and forensic specialists who attended the emergency.
In addition to the human cost, the report highlights that the riots have caused profound social and economic consequences that still affect the nation. The loss of life has directly hit the productive workforce and has generated a crisis in the stability of families, weakening the social structure in various regions affected by the shocks.
The Commission concluded by stressing the need to address the causes of this instability in order to preserve national peace. The findings presented today seek to shed light on the facts and establish a basis for justice and reparation for victims, in an effort to heal the political and social fractures left by the electoral process.
