In the last 8 years, the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP), within the framework of Venezuela's fight against drug trafficking, has succeeded in getting 21 thousand 370 people convicted for their links to drug trafficking and sale, according to the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab.
During the presentation of a management balance sheet, on the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the MP, Saab explained that in the last eight years for the crime of drug trafficking, 60,820 charges and 52,209 accusations have been filed.
In this regard, he reiterated the Revolutionary Government's frontal fight against the scourge of drugs. “To date, Venezuelan authorities have seized 370 tons of illegal drugs, including 283.7 tons of cocaine and 85.3 tons of marijuana,” he said.
“Venezuela produces neither cocaine nor marijuana. Only 5% of the drugs that are sent from Colombia to the United States are trying to circulate through this territory,” he stressed.
On the other hand, Saab repudiated the military operations that, under the excuse of fighting drug trafficking, the United States maintains in the Caribbean. In this regard, he rejected the murder of fishermen in international waters, which in his view constitutes a flagrant violation of international law.
“We are on the verge of the extinction of international public and human rights law. The United States has burned at the stake all international treaties on human rights. We have to raise our voices because this creates a precedent so that any citizen in the world can be riddled with any excuse,” Saab emphasized.
