In the framework of the 54th anniversary of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, diplomatic authorities made a floral offering this Thursday before the sarcophagus of the Liberator Simon Bolivar, in the National Pantheon of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in Caracas.
The activity was led by the Guyanese ambassador to the country, Richard Van West-Charles, who last Tuesday presented his Credentials to the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros. He accompanied the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry by the Deputy Minister for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, Tatiana Pugh Moreno.
On February 23, 1970, the Cooperative Republic of Guyana was proclaimed, almost four years after its independence was declared from the United Kingdom of Great Britain, on May 26, 1966, after several attempts and repressions against those who promoted the freedom of the South American country.
Recently, the 58th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement, to resolve the territorial dispute between Venezuela and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, over Essequiba Guiana, signed on February 17, 1966, was celebrated, which paved the way for the independence of the former British colony.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has always ratified its unwavering commitment to this legal instrument, as the only valid regulatory framework for achieving a satisfactory solution for Venezuela and Guyana on the border dispute over the Essequibo, and as a way for dialogue and comprehensive political negotiation between the two sister nations.
