The Bolivarian Government is working on a plan aimed at promoting the health and well-being of the population through good nutrition and physical activity, the Sectorial Vice President for Social and Territorial Socialism, Héctor Rodríguez, reported this Tuesday, October 7.
During a workshop to train community facilitators in this area, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Popular Power for Education (MPPE) in Caracas, he said that most of the diseases that afflict society today are linked to sedentary lifestyle and poor eating habits, the Sectorial Vice Presidency of Social and Territorial Socialism reported on his Instagram account.
In this regard, Rodríguez mentioned hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, heart and cerebrovascular diseases, among others.
“Weight management is more than looking good, it's not an aesthetic problem, it's a health issue. That is why the effort of this plan must be aimed at redefining the paradigms: reducing the consumption of flour, fried foods and sugar, exercising and aiming for everyone to be a caregiver of their own well-being,” he said.
He pointed out that “sometimes we focus only on having hospitals, providing medicines, but not worrying about moving more, about exercising. Every solution seems to be the pill, the insulin and it's not like that. There must be good health centers, of course, but there must also be more sport, healthy eating.”
He also noted that the facilitators of this workshop will go to communities in Caracas to pilot the plan with the application of anthropometric records and the promotion of healthy diet and physical activity.
He added that despite the food supply problem generated by the economic war against Venezuela, in the country “even in the most difficult years”, the State, together with the organized community, has guaranteed food for the population through programs such as the Local Supply and Production Committees (CLAP), food houses, school canteens (PAE) or family gardens.
This workshop was accompanied by the Minister of Popular Power for Sports, Franklin Cardillo; Jessica Ruiz, Deputy Minister of Food; Adriana Urdaneta, president of the National Institute of Nutrition (INN) and Isis Ochoa, president of the Foundation Center for Studies on the Growth and Development of the Venezuelan Population (Fundacredesa). The Ministries of Health and Culture will be incorporated into the development of this plan.
