The film “Turba” opens this August 27 in movie theaters in the country

The Venezuelan feature film “Turba”, directed by the brothers Andrés and Luis Rodríguez, will hit movie theaters in the country this August 27, after touring national and international festivals.

The film, backed by the National Autonomous Cinematography Center (CNAC), was born from the eponymous play by the playwright and actress Jericó Montilla, who is also part of the cast. In turn, the work is a free version of the novel Humus, by the French writer Fabienne Kanor, and addresses issues such as violence, human trafficking, migration and slavery.

In their film adaptation, the Rodríguez brothers combine cinematographic and theatrical resources to tell the story of six women who find themselves on the high seas in search of their freedom, while reconstructing their experiences, memories and paths to liberation. In addition, the narrative develops through chapters dedicated to each character, who assume their own voices.

The cast includes María Alejandra Tellis, Andrea Pedrón, Katherine León, Estefany Polo, Merlyn Pirela and Jericó Montilla, along with Margareth Aliendres, Miguel Treccia, David Olivares and the children Omar David Quijada and Emmanuel Sánchez.

The production is part of the training program “Learning by doing”, promoted by the CNAC since 2023. The shoot, carried out on the coast of Choroní, Aragua state, included 75 students from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), the National Experimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE) and the Juana Sujo School of Performing Arts, who participated in practical workshops and later joined the production team.
