With a vibrant cultural day in the historic Plaza Manuel Marulanda in the parish of 23 de Enero, the National Conference of the Bolivarian Continental Movement (MCB) came to an end.
The event, which was held for three days in the spaces of Parque Central, brought together delegates from Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay and Venezuela to discuss strategies for emancipation and Latin American unity.
William Benavides, national secretary general of the Tupamaro Revolutionary Movement, stressed that the closing of the conference coincides with the anniversary of the planting of Manuel Marulanda Vélez.
“Today we claim the right of peoples to rebel. It has been three days of debate, liberation and decision in the face of an imperial madness unleashed in the world that does not respect international law,” he said.
Benavides denounced the hegemonic agenda of the United States, pointing out that imperialism is trying to rebuild a dominance that it is losing to the resistance of peoples in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. He also called for strengthening direct, participatory and leading democracy as the only way to build revolution from the ground up.
“We are Bolivar's children and, therefore, brothers. We cannot allow American hegemony to fragment us. Today we call for global unity to confront an empire that only seeks to plunder resources regardless of the human cost,” said the leader.
For his part, Rubén Kristofher, director of International Affairs of the Tupamaro Movement, reported that the conference was attended by more than 200 continental delegates.
During his speech, Kristofher emphasized the importance of the “Proletarian International” at the current juncture.
The internationalist spokesperson took advantage of the space to demand the release of President Nicolás Maduro and the first female combatant Cilia Flores, denouncing their situation as prisoners of war after the events of January 3.
“We demand that the empire release our President. From Caracas, we send our maximum support to the Bolivarian Revolution in its fight against world Zionism and external aggression,” he said, referring to the audience held on March 26 in New York.
The Colombian delegate for the department of Cesar, Miriam de las Salas, representative of the “Convite” (an organization that brings together indigenous, Afro-African and peasant peoples), described the meeting as a resounding success.
De las Salas explained that the working groups addressed critical issues such as Peace, the agrarian revolution and binational exchange.
“We seek to realize Bolívar's illusion: true freedom for all peoples that we have not yet achieved. I'm leaving Caracas admired by the barbaric resistance of the Venezuelan people,” concluded the Colombian delegate.
The day closed with cultural events that symbolized the unity of Bolivarian countries, reaffirming the commitment of social movements in the region to maintain the offensive in the cultural and political battle against colonialism.
