Ecuador's National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR) reported that 2,211 people have been affected, 19,177 homes have been affected and 61 destroyed, as well as 14 bridges affected by the rains, three of which have been destroyed due to rising rivers and landslides.

The number of deaths due to heavy rains in Ecuador rose to 11, while those affected number more than 72,000, according to the most recent SBGR report, the Telesur website reported.

The death of a child and an adult in a flood that occurred last Friday night, February 28, in the province of El Oro, bordering Peru, raised the death toll, which until then stood at nine.

Faced with the number of deaths and victims of the rains that hit the South American country, President Daniel Noboa ordered the deployment of rescue teams from the Armed Forces, the SNGR, the National Police and the Fire Department to treat those affected and save lives.

For her part, the presidential candidate of the Citizens' Revolution, Luisa González, expressed her solidarity with those affected by the rains and insisted on the need for the government to provide funds to local administrations.
