The population at risk of poverty in Spain rose to 26.5% in 2023

Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE) reported that residents of the European country who are at risk of poverty increased to 26.5% in 2023.
In this regard, the INE explained that unlike the year 2022, which registered 26.0% “in 2023 (with income data for 2022), 1.7% of the population was at risk of poverty, with severe material and social deprivation, and with low employment intensity.”
According to data provided by the Spanish institute, 8.3% of the population had difficulty making ends meet financially during the past year, while 37% could not afford unforeseen expenses.
According to what was published on the Sputnik web portal, Andalusia, the Canary Islands and Extremadura had the highest rates of risk of poverty or social exclusion, while the Basque Country and Navarra had the lowest rates.
It should be noted that the research study was conducted on 67,000 people between February and May 2023, through an internet survey, telephone or face-to-face interview.
