The president of the State Railways Institute (IFE), Bianca Araujo, reported that the institution initiated an action plan based on 90 days, of which “we have been in a first phase for 60 days, which includes shooting equipment” for the optimization of the railway system.

In the Al Día program, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), he indicated that the second phase includes the updating and innovation of the entire electrification scheme of the railway.

“We operate a zero-droplet plan; it's an intervention plan for all the tunnels in the system. There are 24 tunnels right now; we start with the Tazón Tunnel and we're going through the Las Mayas Tunnel,” he said.

He also announced the creation of a technical committee led by the railroad division, which carries out a progressive inspection of all tunnels.

“Technological sovereignty has marked a before and after in the country; adversity is growth and this has generated a comprehensive high-level technical training scheme, not only in the Ezequiel Zamora section, but we can also talk about the Simón Bolívar section,” said Araujo.

He also pointed out that the Simón Bolívar section is the heart of the network, with 240 kilometers of track where “progressive work is also being done between the Yaritagua and Acarigua sectors, and the sector that goes from the pier to Barquisimeto”.

“We have an operational fleet of 10 trains; we are looking to introduce more trains to the fleet”, which are currently undergoing maintenance.

Araujo commented that they intend to integrate a development plan into the IFE called Plan 15-15, which plans to incorporate five additional trains to reduce waiting times to six minutes.
