This Tuesday, June 24, the town of La Guaira attended the mass and the popular tour of San Juan Bautista, which was attended by the re-elected governor José Alejandro Terán, who recognized all the devotees who contribute to the preservation, promotion and development of the religious festival that is transmitted from generation to generation.

“We participated in the Holy Mass, and here we are, full of great faith, asking Saint John, always, to intercede for us before our Lord, so that he may grant us a lot of wisdom and humility, as he granted it to King Solomon to always keep him close to the people, together with people working, building a future, building a homeland, making dreams come true,” he said.

He considered the homily delivered from the La Coromoto church, in the Naiguatá communal territory, by the Bishop of La Guaira, Monsignor Modesto González Pérez, beautiful and profoundly reflective. The prelate recalled that everyone is called and chosen by God to fulfill a task on earth, just as Saint John the Baptist did.

“Monsignor also invited us to be light in the midst of any situation, to practice mercy with those around us and to help everyone who needs us,” he emphasized.

After the mass, the governor presented for the first time the “Order of San Juanera Mayor Lorenza Ugueto” to the guardian of the image of San Juan de Naiguatá for more than 60 years, Félix Corro. The award ceremony was replicated in the rest of the state's 36 brotherhoods.

On the popular tour in front of the church, the passion, faith and commitment of the Guaireños led to the image of San Juan Bautista in the town of Naiguatá, emotions that are recorded every year in most parishes in the state.

“But as a Catholic Christian, who above all else greatly venerates the image of Saint John the Baptist, as he says he opened the way to Christ, like the one who walked before him to announce the gospel to us, the arrival of Jesus, the one who invited us to be born again in spirit and in faith. And that's why I come to accompany, as every year, our people from La Guaira and from all over Venezuela who have come to venerate this image,” said Terán.
