The Washington Post newspaper stated that the United States (USA) has contact with all factions of the Syrian opposition and the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS, formerly the Nusra Front, an organization banned in Russia as a terrorist).

“The US authorities are in contact with all the forces involved in the fighting in Syria, including the Hayat Tahrir al Sham group, which remains on the list of US terrorist organizations,” Sputnik said in a quote to a US official.

The source did not rule out that the White House would remove the jihadist group from its list of terrorist organizations to strengthen collaboration.

On November 27, a broad coalition of armed Syrian opposition groups launched a surprise full-scale offensive against the regular army from the northwest of the country.

Anti-government forces took control of several important cities such as Aleppo, Hama and Homs and entered the capital, Damascus, last Sunday, where they proclaimed the fall of President Bashar Asad, who had held the presidency since 2000, after the death of his father, Hafez Asad (1930-2000).

The blitzkrieg offensive against Assad was led by the Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS, formerly the Nusra Front, an organization banned in Russia as a terrorist).
