According to a press release from Fox News, the president-elect of the United States (USA), Donald Trump, “ironized” that Canada could join his country as the 51st state, if it does not resist the tariff increase threatened by having a surplus in bilateral trade and not controlling the flow of migrants and drugs across the common border.

According to the North American television channel, after meeting last week at his residence with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The meeting, unofficial, allowed both leaders to exchange ideas for the next administration that they will assume in early 2025.

During the informal meeting, Trump reaffirmed that as soon as he takes office, he will apply a 25% tariff to all Canadian products. This decision would be a serious blow to the Canadian export apparatus, which has one of its main trading partners in the United States.
