The head of the Venezuelan Diplomatic Mission in Italy, María Elena Uzzo, and the Consul General in Naples, Esquía Rubín De Celis Núñez, participated in the Popular Assembly: “What the media don't tell about Venezuela”, held in the city of Quarto.
The Deputy Minister for Social Movements, Skarlen Mariño, also participated in the activity by videoconference; as well as international observers of the presidential elections of July 28, the National Popular Consultation on communal projects of August 25 and attendees at the World Congress against Fascism, held on September 10 and 11.
During the opening of the Assembly, Uzzo thanked the Quarto territory for its convening and hospitality. He pointed out that Venezuela is the victim of a media and cyber war and stressed that “the manipulation of information is violence as aggressive and effective as bombs. They implode thoughts, dreams, and convictions, and create easily manipulated scenarios.”
The diplomat stressed that Venezuela currently produces almost 100 percent of the food consumed by the population and, “despite almost a thousand unilateral coercive measures, it continues to grow.”
“The Bolivarian Revolution has always been guided by a spirit of resilience and, today more than ever, with the leadership of President Nicolás Maduro and the civic-military union, our country continues to work tirelessly to create an alternative and overcome the consequences of the economic and financial blockade,” he said.
During the assembly, the community representatives of Quarto proposed a motion to repudiate the “Application of Unilateral Coercive Measures and the Economic Blockade against Venezuela”, based on the document of the UN Special Rapporteur, Alena Douhan, on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights.
The Popular Assembly made it possible to reiterate from Italy its solidarity with Venezuela and the importance of disseminating updated information on the reality of the South American country. They recognized the role of the South American nation as the driving force behind the creation of the Anti-Fascist International and expressed their commitment to strengthening and consolidating this network, denouncing the genocide in Palestine and Lebanon.
