Last Monday, the president of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, proposed the use of force against Israel based on the Union for Peace, a resolution approved by the United Nations General Assembly in 1950
During a speech to the nation, Erdogan said: “If the Security Council does not show the necessary will, the power of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) to recommend the use of force, as in the resolution Union for Peace of 1950, must be activated quickly.”
According to the resolution, if the UN Security Council, for lack of unanimity among its permanent members, fails to fulfill its responsibility to maintain international peace and security, the General Assembly will immediately examine the matter, with a view to making appropriate recommendations to members for collective action, including the use of armed forces if necessary.
Sputnik explained that in the past two weeks, Israeli forces carried out a series of massive attacks, including in residential areas, on the grounds of locating members of Hezbollah.
