UCV and international organizations evaluate a plan for the reconstruction and reinforcement of 11,000 homes

Authorities from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), representatives of the National Executive and delegates of international cooperation held a working day to evaluate progress in infrastructure plans, risk prevention and reconstruction after the effects generated by the recent earthquakes, said Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) m

During the activity, in which it was reported that the Commission has more than 62,000 inspections carried out and the characterization of some 11,000 homes that require repair or reinforcement, the authorities pointed out that “international cooperation for academic growth is and will always be welcome”.

In this regard, the Japanese ambassador to Venezuela, Yasushi Sato, highlighted the work of the engineers and medical staff of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), noting that specialists and members of various Non-Governmental Organizations were surprised by “the great solidarity that exists among Venezuelans.”

For his part, the CAF representative for Venezuela, Xavier Prieto, assessed the scope of the technical approach, stating that this tragedy provides his organization with the possibility of going beyond the restitution of those affected, allowing for the progressive incorporation of all learning in infrastructure, services, planning, prevention and response.

The meeting was attended by the academic vice-rector of the UCV, Dr. María Fátima Garcés; the administrative vice-rector, Dr. José Balbino León; as well as government officials, members of the private sector, academics and former JICA fellows. This articulation seeks to consolidate strategic alliances and resilient housing engineering for the comprehensive care of affected communities.
