The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, asks Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran to make every effort to avoid a regional war and also calls for the cessation of all military actions, said the Secretary General's spokesman, Stephane Dujarric.

“The Secretary General urges all parties to cease all hostilities, including in Gaza and Lebanon, and to do everything possible to avoid a full-scale regional war and (asks) to return to the path of diplomacy,” the statement said.

The text also underlines: “With regard to the attacks of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) against targets in Iran, the Secretary General expresses his serious concern about the continuing escalation in the Middle East. All acts of escalation are condemnable and must cease.”

During the early morning of October 26, the Israel Defense Forces attacked military sites in Iran in response to “months of continuous attacks.”

Iranian air defense forces claimed that military installations in the provinces of Ilam, Khuzestan and Tehran were attacked, but damage was limited as the Islamic nation's air defense systems were able to successfully repel the offensive.
