This Wednesday, the United Nations (UN) requested more than 47.4 billion dollars to help nearly 190 million people who will suffer the consequences of conflicts and climate change in 2025.
The head of Humanitarian Affairs at the United Nations, Tom Fletcher, said from the city of Geneva that “the combination of conflict, climate crisis and inequality created a perfect storm” and warned that the world is on fire.
“We are facing a multiple crisis on a global scale and the most vulnerable people are paying the price,” said the senior UN official.
In this way, Fletcher lamented that the humanitarian system is overwhelmed, underfunded and is the victim of attacks. “A boost of global solidarity is needed” in the face of “donor exhaustment2,” he added.
