The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Palestine assured that the international community must investigate cases of air strikes by the Israeli Defense Forces against camps for internally displaced persons in the Gaza Strip

On December 4, Israeli aircraft attacked a tent camp in the Khan Younis humanitarian zone, killing 23 Palestinians, including four children and two women.

“The Israeli military stated that their objectives were 'senior Hamas commanders' and suggested that the secondary detonations were due to the presence of weapons in the area. However, according to the UN Office for Human Rights, the secondary explosions were caused by gas balloons for domestic use,” the document underlines.

This is the seventh such attack against a Palestinian tent camp in the past two weeks: a total of 34 people, including 10 children, were killed.

“We call for independent, impartial and effective investigations into all these attacks caused by civilians against tents in which homeless families are taking refuge,” the statement said.
