The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed his firm condemnation of any aggression directed against civilian infrastructure. The agency's spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, reaffirmed the official position on Monday after incidents involving unmanned aircraft were reported in Moscow.
The international representative also recalled that international law strictly prohibits attacks that endanger essential goods and services for the population.
The organization also reiterated its urgent call for a total and immediate ceasefire to prevent a further escalation of the conflict in the region. These statements come after the mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, confirmed the impact of a drone on an office building last Sunday. Although the incident in the west of the city left no fatalities, the international organization warned of the danger of urban areas becoming recurring combat scenarios.
For its part, the Russian Defense Ministry reported the destruction of at least 90 drones belonging to Ukrainian forces in a span of just six hours. These incursions affected various regions of the country, including strategic areas close to the capital and border areas.
The Russian government maintains constant vigilance in the face of what it describes as systematic attacks against its territory, which have intensified during the last period of the military operation that began in 2022.
While fighting persists, the international community notes with concern the increasing use of drone technology in densely populated areas. The UN insisted that the protection of civilians must be the absolute priority for all parties involved in the fighting.
For now, Russian authorities continue to assess material damage while reinforcing their anti-aircraft defense systems in the United States (US) and other key points to prevent future violations of their sovereign space.
