This Tuesday, through the RIA Novosti agency, the director for the Middle East of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Rema Jamous Imseis, reported that 283,000 people fled Lebanon to Syria due to the ongoing conflict between the Shiite militia Hezbollah and Israel and the regular attacks of Zionism.

“The flow of refugees from Lebanon to Syria will continue until a ceasefire is reached. More than 283,000 people have already fled to Syria, of whom approximately 30 percent are Lebanese and 70 percent are Syrians,” said the director.

He also added that the Syrian authorities intend to keep the borders with Lebanon open to allow the population to take refuge in their country.

On October 8, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, met in Damascus with Syrian President Bashar Asad to discuss aid to refugees arriving from Lebanon since September 23.
