“For the people of Gaza, the last 100 days have seemed like 100 years. It's time to restore the value of human life,” said Philippe Lazzarini, head of the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA).
100 days have passed since the beginning of the conflict, while the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip has claimed the lives of nearly 24,000 Palestinians.
“The mass death, destruction, displacement, hunger, loss and pain of the past 100 days are tainting our shared humanity,” said Lazzarini, RT reviews.
In that regard, he added that the massive bombings of Israel, which caused the massive displacement of the population of the Gaza Strip, had to “leave overnight, to move to equally insecure places, in a state of uncertainty.”
“This was the biggest displacement of the Palestinian people since 1948. This war has affected more than 2 million people, the entire population of Gaza. Many will carry scars for life, both physical and psychological. The vast majority, including boys and girls, are deeply traumatized,” he said.
On the other hand, Lazzarini pointed out that the humanitarian operation carried out in the area is one of “the most complex and difficult in the world, largely due to the cumbersome procedures for the entry of aid.”
