UN Secretary General called for addressing the main global challenges in the BRICS

This Thursday, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin and the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) António Guterres, made an urgent call to the countries of the BRICS bloc, which represent almost half of the world's population, to address the main global challenges during the 16th Summit of this alliance.

“No group or country can act alone or in isolation. A community of nations, working as a global family, is needed to address global challenges,” Guterres emphasized during his speech.

The UN's top representative outlined four critical areas of action. First, he highlighted the need to reform the current international financial system, which he described as “obsolete, ineffective and unfair”.

He proposed accelerating the implementation of a Stimulus for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and increasing the credit capacity of Multilateral Development Banks.
