This Friday, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) received information about damage to world heritage sites in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and southern Lebanon, the organization told TASS.

“Since February 28, the organization has received several mutually corroborating reports of damage to a series of world heritage sites: the Golestan Palace, the Chehel Sotún Palace, the Persian Garden complex, the Aljama Mosque in Isfahan, as well as the buildings of the museum complex located near the buffer zone of the prehistoric sites of Khorramabad,” the media detailed in the quote.

It also highlights that it is possible that other sites in this region included in the UNESCO world heritage list may have also been damaged, including the archaeological excavations of Tiras in Lebanon.

The agency reiterated its deep concern for the conservation of heritage sites in the conflict zone and reported that it has provided the geographical coordinates of the threatened sites to all parties involved.
