This Tuesday, the Russian Federation and the United States (USA) held a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, in which they discussed the possibility of advancing negotiations for a new nuclear arms control treaty.

This is the first meeting to take place on this issue and was held at the initiative of Washington, after rejecting the renewal of the so-called New START or START III, the Strategic Nuclear Weapons Reduction Treaty, which was in force from 2010 to last February 5.

The U.S. delegation will hold another meeting with representatives of the People's Republic of China, as confirmed by diplomatic sources directly involved in these talks.

However, China noted that for the time being it does not consider entering into negotiations of this type.

The US proposes that the new treaty not only include this country and Russia, but also China, which it says is multiplying its nuclear arsenal, both of which account for 87% of the nuclear weapons that exist in the world.
