Venezuela and Chile signed this Thursday an agreement on Bilateral Cooperation in Criminal Investigation aimed at outlining strategies to combat organized crime at the transnational level.

The event was led by the Deputy Minister of the Integrated Criminal Investigation System of the Ministry of Popular Power for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace (MPPRIJP), Humberto Ramírez, and Manuel Monsalve, Undersecretary of the Interior of Chile.

The Deputy Minister for Latin America of the Ministry of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Rander Peña, pointed out the importance of coordinating efforts in the fight against organized crime.

“This day of knowledge exchange in police matters complies with the instructions of President Nicolás Maduro, who has asked us to expand all coordination and schemes in order to confront organized crime and thus defend the peoples of Chile and Venezuela,” said Peña, quoted in a press release.

For his part, Undersecretary Monsalve said that the signing of the agreement is an unprecedented event to strengthen cooperation ties for the protection of the peoples of Venezuela and Chile against the threats of organized crime.

“This agreement will allow us to have collaboration mechanisms among our police that allow us to work together against organizations dedicated to transnational crime,” said Monsalve.

The activity was attended by the director of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC), Douglas Rico; and the Prefect General Lautaro Arias, Deputy Director of Police and Criminal Investigation of the Chilean Investigative Police.
