The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,
Nicolás Maduro, met this Friday with his counterpart from Honduras,
Xiomara Castro de Zelaya. Both leaders are in Saint Vincent and the
Grenadines, where they participated in the VIII Summit of Heads of State and
Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
During the meeting, they reiterated the willingness of their
Governments to strengthen cooperative relations in areas of
common interest and the fight against imperialism.
Maduro and Castro held their last meeting in September
2023, during the Summit of the Group of 77 (G77) and China, with the objective of
strengthening their ties for common development.
It is important to note that the Venezuelan Dignitary received
the Francisco Morazán Order in his Grand Gold Cross Degree, the highest badge
awarded by the Government of Honduras to international leaders and personalities, for
the contribution made together with Commander Hugo Chávez to restore Honduran
democracy, after the coup d'etat in 2009.
Caracas and Tegucigalpa are making progress in concluding agreements for the First Binational
Joint Commission scheduled for this year. In July
2023, both governments signed the Joint Declaration of the First Meeting of the Political Consultation
Mechanism, according to a Presidential Press release.
