Venezuela and Jamaica reaffirm their willingness to deepen bilateral relationship in New York

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Félix Plasencia González, held a meeting this Thursday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, Kamina Johnson Smith, at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Venezuela in New York, where both are participating in the 81st Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).

At the meeting, “we reaffirm the will to deepen the bilateral relationship on the basis of mutual respect, brotherhood and cooperation, which have always existed between Venezuela and Jamaica, prioritizing the revival of the historic and friendly ties that traditionally unite both peoples,” the foreign minister shared on social networks.

In 2025, in a gesture of international solidarity after the devastation caused by the passage of Hurricane Melissa on the Caribbean island, the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela sent a shipment of 20.5 tons of humanitarian aid.

Venezuela and Jamaica have more than 60 years of bilateral relations, sharing historic ties for more than 200 years. From Kingston, the Liberator Simon Bolivar wrote the Letter, dated September 6, 1815, in which he describes his vision of unity, sovereignty and independence of the peoples of Our America.
