The Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, arrived in Mexico to fulfill a work agenda that will strengthen bilateral relations, based on the principles of respect and mutual support.
According to a press release, as part of the work agenda, the minister visited the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), one of the study houses with the highest demand in the country and with an enrollment of approximately 360,000 students.
“In the company of the coordinator of the Center for Advanced Computing Studies, Dr. Boris Escalante Ramírez, the Academic Coordinator, Dr. Jimena Olveres Montiel and the Coordinator of the Electronic Engineering Division, Master Alejandro Velázquez Mena, we discovered the Quantum Computing Laboratory,” said the Sectorial Vice President of Science, Technology, Ecosocialism and Health.
The minister stressed the importance of UNAM, considering that it is the first “higher education institution in Latin America to use portable quantum computers, which operate from the Faculty of Engineering (FI)”.
In this regard, he stated that the use of quantum equipment could strengthen data analysis, processing and development capabilities, especially in the areas of electrical and computer engineering.
Faced with this scenario, Minister Gabriela Jiménez pointed out that Mexico's initiative to incorporate quantum computing into knowledge formation “constitutes an appropriate space for the generation of new capacities in the region, through the development of quantum computing and semiconductor projects.”
He pointed out that, from the Bolivarian Government led by President Nicolás Maduro, the goal is to use these new technologies and tools to “strengthen a scientific-educational model that guarantees the consolidation of a powerful country.”
“We convey an effusive greeting to the Mexican authorities for their cordial reception. We continue together hand in hand, defending the right of peoples to self-determination and the dream of our Liberator Father, Simon Bolivar: that of the Great Homeland,” he concluded.
