The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, held a meeting this Thursday with the ambassador of the Russian Federation accredited to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Sergey Mélik-Bagdasárov, to strengthen relations and the alliance of solidarity between the two nations.

Through a message released on his social networks, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, on behalf of the Bolivarian Government, thanked Russia for defending the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations (UN), “in particular with regard to non-interference and the rejection of the use of force that violates the sovereignty of countries”, following the armed aggression perpetrated by the United States (USA) the past January 3rd.

Gil also praised the “firm rejection of the Government of Vladimir Putin in the face of the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and the First Lady, Cilia Flores”, described as “an illegitimate act under international law”.

Finally, both diplomats reaffirmed the solid strategic alliance between Caracas and Moscow, “focused on political, economic and diplomatic cooperation, within the framework of the High-Level Intergovernmental Commission (CIAN) and the Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Treaty.”
