Through an official statement, the Republic of Venezuela announced its membership in the International Organization for Mediation (IMED).
The information was published on the Telegram account of Foreign Minister Yván Gil, who explained that this organization represents a “firm commitment to peace, sovereignty and multilateralism”.
Below is the full text of the statement:
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela informs the international community that it has joined the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed), a powerful multilateral tool that marks a turning point in the construction of a just, peaceful, multicentric and multipolar new world order.
OLMed, the first intergovernmental body dedicated exclusively to mediation for the resolution of international disputes, is based on essential principles such as respect for the sovereignty of States, the self-determination of peoples, good faith and legal security. This initiative constitutes a concrete support for the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and stands as a bastion against those who seek to undermine multilateralism and weaken legitimate spaces for dialogue between nations.
Venezuela expresses its warmest congratulations to President Xi Jinping and the Government of the People's Republic of China for this momentous contribution to peace, international justice and the strengthening of the Global South as a bloc with its own voice and a common agenda in world governance.
Next Tuesday, June 3, the National Executive will present to the National Assembly the document of incorporation into OLMed, with the purpose of granting it the rank of Law of the Republic and ratifying the commitment of the Venezuelan State to the peaceful resolution of conflicts, international law and cooperation between the peoples of the world.
