La official letter highlighted Castro's character as a social and anti-imperialist fighter and reaffirmed Venezuela's commitment to the defense of sovereignty, the self-determination of peoples, social justice and the unity of Our America.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela celebrates with deep joy the 99th anniversary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, whose example and thinking follow illuminating the emancipatory struggles of the peoples of Our America and of the world.
Su life, marked by total dedication to the cause of freedom and the dignity of peoples, led him to be present, in thought and action, in every corner of the planet where justice and sovereignty claimed his voice. From the Moncada Barracks to the Sierra Maestra; from resistance against imperialism to the creation of spaces of unity such as the ALBA-TCP, Fidel forged a legacy that unites generations in the fight against domination and for a more just world.
El Bolivarian people remember with special affection Fidel who, guided by the ideas of José Martí and Simon Bolivar, found in the Eternal Commander Hugo Chávez a brother of the cause, with whom he made possible the materialization of Latin American and Caribbean solidarity integration.
Hoy, 99 years after its birth, Venezuela reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the ideals that Fidel bequeathed to us: the defense of sovereignty, the self-determination of peoples, social justice and the unity of Our America.
El Bolivarian Government sends a fraternal, revolutionary and supportive embrace to the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez; to Army General Raúl Castro Ruz; and to the heroic Cuban people.
